The Asian firm will present its new "smartphone" in March in Paris after not presenting at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona any phone, a decision that sources of the company in Spain believe right to show the strength of their new computer, the Matebook X Pro.
Huawei has not presented mobile phones at this edition of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona but is preparing to do so in Paris in just three weeks, on March 27. It will be, then, in the French capital where the Chinese giant will show for the first time its new (and expected) P20.
Fabio Arena, director of product marketing at Huawei in Spain, explains to ABC that "the fair is very important, and we are among the top companies of the MWC. But this year we have preferred to focus on other products, such as our new Matebook X Pro notebook and our new range of Mediapad M5 tablets.
What is the reason for this strategy?
The consumer associates us only with mobile phones and we wanted to focus on other products. In both laptops and tablets, the brand continues to grow despite the fact that sales in this sector are generally down. And I must say that our new laptop has caused a great impact.
And why are there no phones in a mobile congress?
In terms of mobiles, we will present the new series P in Paris. We could have done it here, but in MWC the attention is blurred among all, while on March 27 will only talk about Huawei.
What can you tell us about the P20?
I can say that it is not a simple evolution of the previous P10. If only that, we would have called it P11 ... It is, rather, a change of trend.
Will the camera be the most outstanding aspect of this mobile? In that sense, there have been great surprises at the Mobile World Congress such as the Galaxy S9 ...
The camera will play an important role, yes, as has been happening since the P8. But the best will be around Artificial Intelligence. And that's where I can read...
Changing the subject, how is the Mate 10, current flagship of the company, behaving in the market?
Incredibly well, and although we do not communicate figures by country, I will tell you that according to our internal data it is selling almost four times more than the previous Mate 9, which is an excellent result.
Do you think that people know what Artificial Intelligence is applied to a mobile?
Many people do not yet know what Artificial Intelligence is or what it does. In Huawei, we have two ways of showing it: the invisible, which is performance and consumption; and the visible one, which is the camera. But the intelligence of Mate 10 was just the first outbreak of what is coming now.
Does that mean there will be a new processor?
Not necessarily, although I still can not give that information. Let's say that the AI starts with the Kirin 970, but it increases. And with the new P20, we have gone to another level.
